The 10 VR Games You NEED to Play in 2026 (Before Your Friends Do)
Free-roam, multiplayer, and single-player epics: the no-filler list of the best virtual reality has to offer this year.
Why 2026 Is THE Year to Strap In
VR isn't a "someday" thing anymore. With the wireless Meta Quest 3 and 3S, the PSVR2 plugged into a PlayStation 5, the Apple Vision Pro, and Pico headsets, there are now more great games than you have time to play.
Heads up: this is our pick and our opinion, not an official ranking. But if you want to jump in without wasting money on weak titles, start here. And if you don't own a headset yet, no worries: we'll tell you how to try all of this on a bigger stage.
Rhythm and Adrenaline Anyone Gets (1 & 2)
Beat Saber is still king: you slice blocks to the beat with two lightsabers, and within five minutes you're sweating and grinning. It's the best first game for anyone who's never worn a headset.
Want something more brainy? Superhot VR freezes time: everything only moves when you move, so you dodge bullets in slow motion like an action-movie hero. Short, intense, and addictive.
Co-op: Survive With Your Squad (3, 4 & 5)
For team play, After the Fall and Arizona Sunshine throw you against zombie hordes with up to four friends. They shine most in free-roam form, where you actually walk across the map instead of teleporting.
Prefer fantasy? Dungeons of Eternity is a four-player dungeon crawler full of arrows and shattered skeletons, and Demeo turns a tabletop RPG into a magical board you share with your crew. Pure game night.
PvP: The Arena Is Yours (6, 7 & 8)
Feeling competitive? Contractors Showdown and Pavlov are serious shooters with hand-loaded weapons and voice comms, and you'll sweat every firefight. Population: One is pure battle royale: climb walls, fly, and fight to be the last one standing.
For quick matches, Hyper Dash is a fast futuristic arena where you slide, teleport, and capture objectives at full speed. Perfect when you've got 20 minutes and something to prove.
Single-Player, but Absolutely Epic (9 & 10)
It's not all multiplayer. Half-Life: Alyx (on PC VR) is still, for many, the best VR game ever made: a huge campaign that pulls you straight into its world. On Quest, Batman: Arkham Shadow hands you the cowl and feels unreal.
Got hours to spare? Asgard's Wrath 2 is a massive Viking adventure with combat, puzzles, and a world to explore. Honorable mentions: Assassin's Creed Nexus and, on PSVR2, Resident Evil Village for the brave.
What's Coming, and Where to Play It Big
2026 is just getting started, and the hype is real: fans are anticipating titles like PAYDAY: Aces High (co-op heists) and TMNT: Empire City. Not everything's out yet, so take it for what it is: anticipation, not a promise.
