WoW Forever server status: servers are up, and how to get past the ruleset error
From launch-night queues to missing characters, here's what Blizzard has confirmed so far and what rests only on players' own reports.

Yes, WoW Forever's servers are up. At 2:52 p.m. ET (11:52 a.m. PT) on November 5, 2026, Blizzard's live status data listed all four rulesets, the big player pools this game uses instead of traditional realms, as online in Americas & Oceania, and Blizzard Support showed no outage alert. Players in the Americas report the game was down for about 40 minutes Thursday morning. If you're stuck on the message "This ruleset is temporarily unavailable," log out to the login screen and log back in: that's what has worked for players, and Blizzard hasn't published a fix of its own.
WoW Forever server status right now
The four rulesets are Normal, PvP (player versus player), Roleplay and Roleplay PvP. Here's how Blizzard's status feed listed them at that check:
| Region | Normal | PvP | Roleplay | Roleplay PvP |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Americas & Oceania | Online | Online | Online | Online |
| Europe | Online | Online | Online | Online |
| Korea | Online | Online | Not listed | Not listed |
| Taiwan | Online | Online | Not listed | Not listed |
The feed answers one question: up or down. It doesn't show the login queue, the waiting line the servers put you in when too many people connect at once. It also leaves out population counts and faction locks, the limits Blizzard puts on new Alliance or Horde characters, so a ruleset marked online can still turn you away at character creation.
Why was WoW Forever down Thursday morning?
Players report the servers dropped around 10:00 a.m. ET (7:00 a.m. PT) with the message "No servers currently available," and that logins returned around 10:39 a.m. ET (7:39 a.m. PT). Some say a yellow alert in the Battle.net app, Blizzard's desktop launcher, gave the work one hour, while others complain of no warning. Blizzard hasn't posted the times or what changed on its support site or forums.
Blizzard did signal work on launch night. Replying to complaints about empty-looking cities, Blizzard's Aggrend wrote, "We will be tweaking some numbers tomorrow to help things feel a bit more lively." Aggrend also said boats and zeppelins were getting "lost in the maelstrom," with portals near most docks as a temporary fix. Blizzard hasn't said whether that work caused the downtime or whether either change went in.
What's still broken in WoW Forever
Blizzard's two running lists, a Known Issues forum post and a Common Issues support article, aren't complete by its own account, and neither mentions servers, queues or rulesets. The main items:
| Problem | Blizzard's status |
|---|---|
| Keybinds and settings reset after relogging | Confirmed, no workaround yet |
| Guild charters (needed to start a guild) won't register | Under investigation, no workaround yet |
| Invite-a-Friend accounts blocked from mail, guilds, parties, trading and leveling past 10 | Fixed; log out and back in |
| PvP vendors in Orgrimmar, Stormwind and Dalaran | Temporarily unavailable |
| "Vorsha the Lasher" quest in Ashenvale | Disabled until a crash bug is fixed |
| Xbox Elite 3 controller not recognized correctly | Dropped from Known Issues Thursday, with no fix noted |
WoW Forever launch: how long were the queues?
WoW Forever launched in every region at once at 6:00 p.m. ET (3:00 p.m. PT) on Wednesday, November 4, 2026, after maintenance that Blizzard Support had scheduled from 1:00 p.m. ET (10:00 a.m. PT).
Blizzard hasn't given any queue numbers, so players' posts are the best record. In the first half hour, most listed positions from 14 to 2,534, though one player reported 9,000 after relogging. The line moved fast: positions around 1,800 cleared in 8 to 10 minutes. The September 2026 beta was far worse, with reports of hour-long queues.
The rest of the night came in waves. This timeline comes from player reports and guides, not Blizzard:
| Time (ET) | Time (PT) | What was reported |
|---|---|---|
| 6:02 p.m. | 3:02 p.m. | Queue screens reading "Login Servers are Full," and the first forum thread on every ruleset being unavailable |
| 6:10 p.m. | 3:10 p.m. | Relogging starts making rulesets selectable |
| 6:21 p.m. | 3:21 p.m. | First reports of character creation throttled, meaning held back |
| 6:22 p.m. | 3:22 p.m. | First reports of error BLZ51901016; two players later said turning off a VPN fixed it |
| 8:17 to 8:36 p.m. | 5:17 to 5:36 p.m. | A wave of disconnects |
| 10:58 to 11:59 p.m. | 7:58 to 8:59 p.m. | Subscription error WOW51900327 |
| 12:30 a.m. | 9:30 p.m. | New Horde characters still blocked on PvP |
WoW Forever layering and empty cities
Layering is the system that spreads a ruleset's players across separate copies of the same zones to keep crowds manageable. Players say the copies feel too thin: they describe main cities with a handful of people and chat channels numbered "English 48" and "trade 84." Blizzard says it's aware of certain areas "not feeling as populated as they should."
Layers can split friends, too. Thursday morning, Blizzard community manager Kaivax asked players whether a blue message appears in the lower right after joining a group, and whether clicking it brings up a "Refresh Now" button that puts them together. Most who replied say the message rarely or never appears, though one says it worked; others regrouped by relogging or walking to the next zone and back.

"This ruleset is temporarily unavailable": what it means and what to do
Blizzard hasn't said what causes this message, or whether it fixed the fault or the fault cleared by itself. A Blizzard Support article on name reservations lists the exact words, but its text now says only that reservations are over. The message isn't on either bug list, and no staff forum post addresses it.
On launch night, players came out of the queue to find all four rulesets grayed out, and reserved names didn't help. One guide timed the worst of it at about 20 minutes. It wasn't new: players reported the same problem in the beta on October 14 and 15, 2026, and during name reservation on October 27, 2026. The nearest thing to an official comment is an October 31, 2026, Customer Support post, after a bug that could lock Oceanic players out of two rulesets: "RP and RP-PVP has been causing no small number of issues for some reason."
What has worked for players, and what guides advise:
- Check that the game is up. If Blizzard's status page shows your ruleset as down, wait.
- If all four rulesets are gray, log out to the login screen and log in again. That sends you back through the queue, which took 7 to 9 minutes on launch night, and it can take more than one try.
- If another ruleset lights up and yours doesn't, give it a few minutes. One player found Roleplay PvP still failing while PvP worked.
- Skip reinstalling the game or running Scan and Repair, the Battle.net app's file check. One guide advises against both.
Some players also hit a version where the ruleset cards light up but clicks do nothing. Blizzard hasn't addressed that one either.
"This faction is currently unavailable" is a different problem
That message is a deliberate limit, not a fault. Character creation is "temporarily restricted for the dominant faction" when one side gets too big, Blizzard Support says, and Customer Support can't unlock it manually. Players were still reporting a Horde lock on PvP at 2:30 p.m. ET (11:30 a.m. PT) Thursday. You can wait, or pick the other faction or another ruleset.
What is WoW Forever, and how much does it cost?
World of Warcraft: Forever is a new, stand-alone WoW game that runs alongside the modern game and WoW Classic. "This is not a mode, a season, or a new version of Classic," Blizzard says. It starts in the early "Year 1" period of the original game and rebuilds that level 1-60 world with more than 1,000 new quests, new zones such as Mount Hyjal and Shen'dralas, nine new five-player dungeons and a new playable race, the Skyborne. The level cap stays at 60, with no flying mounts and no level scaling, so each zone keeps a fixed level range.
There's no separate purchase: Forever comes with an active WoW subscription or Game Time, Blizzard's prepaid play time. The upgrade packs are optional, though the Skyborne race and its Zephras Isle starting zone require at least the Heroic Pack.
| Option | US price | What you get |
|---|---|---|
| Subscription, 1 month | $14.99 | Forever, WoW Classic and modern WoW to level 80 (the Midnight expansion costs extra) |
| Subscription, 3 months | $41.97 | Same, $13.99 a month |
| Subscription, 6 months | $77.94 | Same, $12.99 a month |
| Skyborne Heroic Pack | $29.99 | Skyborne race, Zephras Isle start, Cerulean Prideclaw mount, cosmetics |
| Skyborne Epic Pack | $59.99 | Heroic Pack plus 30 days of Game Time, a bear mount and more |
| Warcraft Forever Collection | $79.99 | Epic Pack plus Warcraft III: Reforged and Warcraft III Reforged: Forsaken Kingdom, on sale through January 11, 2027 |
You install it through the Battle.net app, as a game version of World of Warcraft. Blizzard lists only Windows and Mac, which leaves out SteamOS devices like the Steam Deck. Gamepad support is in beta and you'll still need a keyboard for chat, which matters if you hoped to play on a Windows handheld such as the ROG Xbox Ally X20.
Raids open on December 9, 2026, for level 60 players: Barrow Deeps for 10 players, Hyjal Summit for 20 and Onyxia's Lair for 40. The one-life Hardcore ruleset is due in winter, with no date, and major updates in spring and summer add more raids and dungeons.

WoW Forever rulesets: what each one changes
You pick a ruleset before you create a character, and it decides who you can play with.
| What | Across rulesets? |
|---|---|
| Groups, guilds, dungeons, raids | Same ruleset and same faction only |
| Trading and the economy | Separate for each ruleset |
| Battlegrounds (PvP matches) | Mixed, except Hardcore |
| Collections | Account-wide, with Hardcore handled differently |
| Moving a character | Not allowed: make a new one, since paid Character Transfer isn't available |
| Character limit | 70 per account |
If you can't decide, Blizzard's tip is that Normal "offers a welcoming place to learn." The PvP ruleset allows only one faction per account, while Normal and Roleplay allow both. Blizzard hasn't spelled out the rule for Roleplay PvP.
If a character seems to be missing, check the other rulesets first. Players report characters turning up on a different ruleset from the one they chose, including reserved characters found on Roleplay PvP, and one player says Roleplay characters moved to Roleplay PvP after Thursday's downtime. On November 3, 2026, Customer Support said some people "definitely have characters on Rulesets they didn't intend," but it hasn't commented since launch.
WoW Forever addons: which ones work
Addons, the fan-made plugins that change the game's interface, do run in Forever, but not all of them have caught up. Blizzard hasn't published Forever-specific addon rules. Its launch support post advises updating yours, since "addon creators might be making updates."
| Status | Addons |
|---|---|
| Forever build on the authors' release pages | Questie, Deadly Boss Mods, BigWigs, Plater, Bartender4, Advanced Interface Options, WoW-Pro |
| Forever file on a third-party tracker, October 31, 2026 | Details!, ElvUI, Auctionator, Leatrix Plus, Leatrix Maps |
| No Forever file on that tracker | WeakAuras, TradeSkillMaster, OmniCC, AdiBags, Shadowed Unit Frames, Spy, Nova World Buffs |
That tracker counted 71 of 82 addons with a Forever file, five of them only as test builds. It also lists ForeverAuras, a fork of WeakAuras, meaning a copy by other authors.
Players say Forever uses the same restricted addon system as modern WoW, which hides combat values from addons as "secret" data. A European forum thread asking Blizzard to ease that ran to 60 posts with no staff reply. Forever does build some of this in: its advanced options include a Cooldown Manager and a Damage Meter.
Don't blame your addons first, either: in forum reports of the mailbox and keybind bugs, players mostly say they run none.

How to check WoW Forever server status yourself
Work through these in order:
- Server Status page. On Blizzard's World of Warcraft site, open Server Status, choose World of Warcraft: Forever from the game menu and pick your own region.
- Battle.net app. Players say the yellow alert triangle sits near the top left, and you hover over it to read the notice. Some say it only shows on the app's old layout.
- Common Issues and Known Issues. The banner on the Blizzard Support site links to the first, and Blizzard says the forum post "will be updated regularly."
- Technical Support forum and Blizzard Support's X and Bluesky accounts. Don't lean on Bluesky for outages: its feed had nothing on the launch queues or Thursday's downtime, and Support told one player there that responses "may take a little longer."
Plan on more downtime as patches arrive. A BlizzCon interview published September 14, 2026, quotes Blizzard's Ion Hazzikostas saying Forever's updates will have "staggered rollouts" across regions and that "patching means taking down the servers for several hours."
FAQ
Will Blizzard compensate players for the WoW Forever launch problems?
Blizzard hasn't announced compensation, extra game time, added capacity or a server-wide rollback. Reports of lost money or profession progress so far come from individual players.
How big is the WoW Forever download?
Blizzard hasn't published an exact size. Its requirements ask for 128GB of free SSD space, and its beta notes from October 1, 2026, called the install "larger than intended," with no newer figure since.
Can a friend play WoW Forever without a subscription?
Yes, through November 11, 2026, with an Invite-A-Friend Launch Code for eligible invitees. The Skyborne Heroic Pack includes one code, and the Skyborne Epic Pack and Warcraft Forever Collection include three.
